Cuadernos de Lingüística de El Colegio de México is an open-access electronic peer-reviewed journal, published twice yearly (January-June and July-December). Its aim is to disseminate current linguistic research about any language and from different theoretical approaches. We thus seek for the papers published to advance our understanding of natural languages, either from a theoretical or from a purely descriptive point of view. Our target audience are researchers, professors and students specialized in linguistics.
Types of text
Research Articles
Research articles must make a substantial contribution to knowledge and advance understanding of their subject matter, as the result of an original and unpublished investigation with a solid theoretical and methodological base. Research articles should be no more than 40 pages in length.
All submissions are initially assessed by the Editors or a member of the Editorial Board, who verifies if the submission fits the scope of journal and meets the standards expected in an academic publication. Once the submission passes this first filter, it is sent to two anonymous reviewers (see 'Peer Review Process'). The review process is expected to take between six and twelve weeks (see 'Ethical Guidelines'). Once a manuscript is accepted, the Editors and the Editorial board decide, with the authorization of the author, whether it should be published as a research article or as a research note.
Notes
Research notes are shorter than research articles both in extension and in scope. They usually discuss an idea, advance an analysis, describe a new methodology or point to novel empirical data of potential theoretical interest. We also welcome overview articles that describe the state-of-the art in the studies of under- represented languages. Contributions in this section should be no more than 20 pages in length.

Book reviews
Book reviews present critical appraisals of recent books in linguistics. They should be no more than 10 pages in length.
Reviews are assessed by at least one member of the Editorial Board and by the Editors of the journal. The review process is expected to take between six and twelve weeks (see 'Ethical Guidelines').
Dossiers
Dossiers must be a collection of maximum six articles –plus a brief presentation by the coordinator– within the focus of the journal’s topics: phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics, analyzed from synchronic, diachronic or sociolinguistics perspectives. Proposals on underrepresented languages are especially welcome.
Dossier submissions must contain the following information and be sent to cuadernosdelinguistica@colmex.mx:
- Full contact information of the coordinator(s)
- A brief presentation that outlines the topic of the dossier, and its relevance to the field of study.
- A list of articles with tentative titles and abstracts, as well as the authors’ contact information.
Once the proposal is received, it will be evaluated by the directors of the journal and at least two members of the Editorial board or the Advisory board. In order for a proposal to be admitted, it should have the unanimous approval of the editorial team.
If the proposal is accepted, the coordinators will call for the article submissions and they will establish a due date for their final submission. The articles should follow the Cuadernos de Lingüística’s guidelines for authors, available on our website.
Once the dossier coordinators have collected all the articles, Cuadernos de Lingüística will receive the collection and the formal presentation. Each article should be sent by email to the journal editor with copy to the author.
The dossier coordinators will be allowed to propose reviewers for the articles; however, the process of double-blind review and final decision to publish every article will be the exclusive prerrogative of Cuadernos de Lingüística de El Colegio de México. The editorial process will follow the steps detailed on our website.
The dossier will be published once all the accepted articles had been corrected, delivered, and edited according to our standards. The delay on the delivery of the articles final versions will impact on the dossier's final publishing date.
