The purpose of this research note is to analyze the depalatalization of /ɲ/ in the Spanish spoken in the Yucatan Peninsula, based on the main field studies carried until now. I will examine if this process occurs in a systematic way with homogeneous results, as it is the case in other Hispanic territories. Finally, I will present the explanations that scholars have given about this phonological distinctive feature of Yucatan Spanish.
